Need to make a note that this is a thing I'm working on in between everything else.

This is the story it's going to support:

Good night, and good luck.

...that there is still more than the one that falls on this date. This link to an earlier blog entry serves to name anew at least a half-dozen that matter to me in various ways:

Oh, and from Elayne Riggs, who still lives in New York, a question that still stands a year later:

https://elayneriggs.blogspot.com/2021/09/twenty-try-two-hundred.html

I suspect that we can both ask that question over and over, from now until the Day of Judgement, and the answer is still going to be "no". That answer won't be fair, won't be just in any way, and it's still going to be the answer we'll both keep getting.

I hope to someday be wrong in a pleasant way.

Meanwhile

I suspect that I have not been consistent about this across the decades. I may not succeed at being consistent in this from now until I die. But I say this now, one more time, to remind myself of one more part of how to be a better human.

Something that came up in discussion with Mark Shainblum over at Facebook:

To get to a scenario like Star Trek (where such travel has been normalized for a couple of centuries), never mind Star Wars (normalized for 50 thousand years at minimum), we're going to have to go through a phase like we see on The Expanse. We'd best get used to that idea.

And that's if we figure out something in the laws of physics that makes warp drives, hyperlight jump tech or whatever technologically possible. There's people doing that research in several places across our planet right now, yes, but their progress - if any - is going to be slow. Until the prototypes get proven out. If they get proven.

Most of you regulars reading this already know these things. What I needed to do here was remind myself of these facts.

Because with the latest from the Cambridge Analytica mess underway, who knows, right?

Some people might remember my name from Facebook and wonder who the heck this guy is that's been typing out...something that maybe is sometimes sensible and on other occasions makes you want to perforate their skull with your fist.

I'm Dwight. I'm a Canadian nerd. Sometimes, I've been a writer. Others, an artist, still other times, an office worker. I don't plan to discuss that last part of my work history much. It's not secret, just not what I want to talk about here.

I started this out on Livejournal years and years ago. I thought then that I was going to promote myself as a writer and illustrator. Some of my friendlist here knows me from at least that far back. I left because Livejournal was expected to expect me to write this here blog as if I were living and working in Putin's version of Russia. Because their servers had been moved there.

I was born in what some call Treaty 4 territory out on the prairies of North America/Turtle Island to Euro-Canadian parents. I live in Ottawa-Gatineau, built on what's still unceded Alqonquin territory.

So that's the short version.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei for reminding me that this is a reality:

[livejournal.com profile] davidbrin has pointed out such issues more than once on his own weblog, of course, but the reminders are still useful. Especially where a law like the USA's Clayton Act is concerned. And since the USA has a federal election underway, maybe some renewed attention to the Clayton Act's enforcement - or lack of it - is due as part of the debates?

Or so the TV listings in the Ottawa Citizen inform me re: that network's plans for tonight.

As you may recall, Canadian content on Canadian TV is something of a personal cause. We've got a few in circulation on the web at the moment related to that subject.

For the preservation of This is Wonderland.

For the preservation of Da Vinci's City Hall.

For the sale of CODCO, a variety show of some note for its comedic quality from Newfoundland and Labrador, on DVD format.

FYI Notice: I watched the first two almost religiously, so I'm definitely biased. The latter, I've heard good things about from friends and neighbours.
