Street Names in Las Vegas
May. 26th, 2023 07:17 amThere's this project I have to track the street names of Ottawa and Gatineau. For a couple of years, I was using Spacing Ottawa as my venue for publishing such information as I could share. Since that's been archived, I suppose I'll have to use Flickr - my username there is "dwight_ew" - and this blog for that project for now.
Anyway, I came across this item about Las Vegas this morning:

I expect that
devilc will have comments once she reads that.

SCIENCE: Dogs' Faces Matter
Nov. 14th, 2019 07:01 pmDiscovered accidentally in the course of other duties today: the facial expressions of dogs is a topic of serious research.
Given the existence of veterinary medicine, law enforcement and military usages of dogs, and so on, as well as more familial memories, I am not inclined to laugh at this. At all.
I do expect similar research being conducted regarding cats as well.

Fish tank tenant health update
Feb. 6th, 2012 09:02 pmWell, two things to update on that score:
1. Rio-Can has wallpapered over the front doors of the ex-Digby's location. So I can provide no further eyewitness reports on the health of the fish.
2. I've made my concerns known to the ex-seafood restaurant's next-door neighbours tonight: the local Global-Ryan pet food/toys store as it turns out. Since they know how to contact their landlord's assigned caretaker-contractor for Fallingbrook Mall, we'll see what comes of that.
Follow up via the humane society on morning break tomorrow...?

The fate of some aquarium fish
Feb. 5th, 2012 09:32 pmYou'd think I'd be more vexed by my ear-nose-throat issues flaring up yet again in the last week before I return to the old day-job for another season of "keyboard jockey" work.
Wrong.
There's this seafood place at the Fallingbrook Mall that's again(!) run afoul of its landlord under new name and management. Bailiffs' noticed posted in the front door for all to see or ignore as it suits them, most of the lights turned off, the usual routine.
And for the second time, we have an aquarium full of pet-type fish on semi-public display just in line-of-sight of that same front door.
The last time this happened, last year, the tank's worth of fish all died before the new management could get itself lined up to take over the lease. I wrong down the phone number for the bailiff's service, but the area code suggests their home office is in Montréal. So, with the day-job resuming tomorrow, long-distance calls to find out what they and the landlord of the mall are doing about those fish is going to be problematic.
Useful suggestions are welcome. If the above info is already sufficient information for you to act on - within the bounds of the law, please! - and you believe you can take lawful and helpful action here...?
