Oligarchy: Looking at New Brunswick + My Own Memory

CBC News called Arthur Irving what he was: an oligarch.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/arthur-irving-death-1.7202701

I forgot an add-on I'd installed into Firefox. It swaps in "oligarch" for "billionaire" wherever the latter word appears.

If you want it for yourselves...

Malignant Ad-Mails

I think that someone is impersonating Machiavel Studios. The latest e-mail seeking my application to be hired does not have a Canadian e-mail address, but Hungarian.

Horror re: CBC Staffing

This is not what I want for the future of the Public Broadcaster:

Here and I've been listening to this year's edition of the Massey Lectures for most of the afternoon while I was working on the new day job...

Fandom Wikis and the "Y" Key

Is anyone else having trouble using the "y" key in typing stuff on Fandom.com's wiki sites?

Drupal

Coming back to this topic at the moment, as I'm visiting with a Meetup group called "DrupalYOW" (because Ottawa-based Drupal users), I want to refresh my memory: who in my circles here on Dreamwidth is already familiar with this software?

And now I know for certain that Facetime works on my current computer. Just had a brief and entertaining chat with people on the Pacific coastline.

Weather: Worried At the Moment

If I'm not reachable by any internet channels for hours to days after tonight, this might be part of why:

Just so you know.

2. If you're trying to get in or out of metropolitan Vancouver, Canada, you'll need more patience than usual:

4. Mon-Fri 9-5 may be over for many, but what's taking its place in the federal civil service may be problematic in other ways for the staff as much as for the public. Especially in Ottawa-Gatineau where we don't have mask rules back in place yet.

Job Search: CRA Blockage

Yes, I maintain a job-seeker's account with the federal tax authorities. You try to find work in Ottawa-Gatineau without resorting to the various federal departments and agencies and see how far you can get, okay?

Anyway, I've been trying and failing to log in since Thursday. Not sure what's going on. I've left notes with several people. Moving on to continue the job search through other resources while I wait for replies.

Today was warm, and windy...in a warm way.

The mess in progress at Rogers has not affected me too much, but for having to use my credit card when I'd rather use my debit card.

Extended family is mostly okay enough, so far as I can tell.

Found another job to file an actual application for. I'll know in four days if I can get into the candidate pool for it.

May Day 2022

So I've spent the day in family conference - that gets discussed in "access list" entries - as well as a ByMUG meeting, some house chores, Clip Studio Paint practice, culling basement and e-mail clutter, and other stuff.

Names and Mistakes in E-Mail

It's weird getting e-mails from others sharing my own name...
Example: one guy in Georgia having subscribed to alerts from the local Home Depot. Another two were authors, one writing science textbooks, another in US law enforcement history. Then there was the "private military contractor"...
