I do seem to recall devices looking like this one lurking in backgrounds across multiple science-fiction-type TV series across the decades. A rentable prop somewhere in Hollywood's many warehouses, I'm sure. Depending on the series, the purpose of the prop certainly varied a fair bit!

At the bottom of the cover we have the following legend:

"Registered by the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Austria, Germany, Russia, Italy, France, Northern Ireland, the United States of America".

That text survives from Monica Fedrick's concept art as shown in in the "Art of the Film" book straight through to the finished movie.

If this was intended to be so despite what the real worlds' map of Earth looks like, this has some interesting implications for the state of the MCU's version of Europe. Yes?

These search terms have come up empty for me:
  • Matt Hatton
  • Beth Garswood
  • graphic design
  • Superman Returns
I know those two names are connected with that discipline and that movie through The Art of Superman Returns by Daniel Wallace. They are credited with the post-New Krypton map of Earth "if Lex Luthor gets his way" in that book. I'd like to find out if they were responsible for other maps commissioned for use on-screen in that same film.

Are they still working in the field?
