For years (decades?) now, I've been saying that I only saw (on television) Gordie Howe play once, at the all-star game during his final season.

Then today, his last goal, against the Canadiens during the 1981 playoffs was everyone.

I was a Habs fan, so I almost certainly saw that game, and so, saw that goal. But even seeing it re-run on Youtube brought back no memories at all.

Whatever. The man was, by all accounts, a gentleman of the old school (in the good sense of the term) and in pure fact, was a phenomenal athlete. 52 years old and still scoring goals in the NHL!?!

Jaromir Jagger is only 43 and everyone is in awe ...

We'll see if anyone else in the NHL can match that. It might be Jagr...or someone else.

Outside the NHL? Maybe the Elder Skatesmen? (Look them up via The National's YouTube channel.)
