Watched Black Panther on ABC tonight.

I am mildly surprised that they decided to not do commercial breaks for this showing. And I shouldn't have been surprised by that, not in today's context.

I am mildly annoyed by the removal of Shuri's middle finger moment. A small thing, but still...

I think Disney HQ got this mostly right tonight. But I don't and shouldn't get to have the last word on this point.

Amusingly, we watched it on home video last night!

We took one break to clear snack debris, and Dave wanted to pop another bag of microwave popcorn.

We were debating who gets the lip tattoo: all Wakandans or only the ones who travel beyond the borders, and if so, how did the kid get his?

The Vibranium lip tattoos? These were given solely to Wakandan "War Dog" intelligence operatives sent out to other countries.

Incidentally, the Wakandan name for the "War Dogs" is "Hatut Zeraze". Like the Dora Mijale, they were one of Christopher Priest's additions to the comics version of the mythology. And both went through some changes from their original depictions in the comics to their current comics and MCU forms.

Thanks for the info!  I never read the comics, I had a pretty narrow list when it came to Marvel & DC. We had a laugh at the final scene when the kid asks him 'Who are you?' and I said "I am Iron Man".  We then had a discussion about Tony Stark saying that in the first IM movie vs the Marvel Comics and him keeping a secret identity for so long, including Rhodey being in the suit during the very first Secret Wars and Reed Richards patching him up and commenting that he had no idea that a black man was inside Iron Man.  Lots of talk about Tony's alcoholism in the comics vs his huge ego in the movies and appearing alcoholic to mask the palladium poisoning in the second IM movie. We had fun.
