WritersFest Spring 2020 - Cancelled
Mar. 24th, 2020 02:57 pmIt hurt to read this. It was expected. But it still hurts.

I've done volunteer duty from time to time with OIWF over the decades, promoted it over on Flickr (even when the guest of one evening or another later turned out to be not the best sort of human being), and I am still on good and friendly terms with the organizers.
Seeing this problem sprung on them, as it's been sprung on us all, hurts a lot.
I'll try to keep the word coming on what they're up to.

WritersFest Stuff Today
Oct. 26th, 2013 09:44 amYou'll probably see me with camera at hand over at the Knox Presbyterian Church this afternoon. There's a couple of events at the Ottawa International Writers Festival I've agreed to cover today, and I've got to get out the door shortly about that.
See you later...

Closing Out Another Weekend
Oct. 28th, 2012 10:27 pmStill working on picking photos for uploading re: WritersFest. Today, it was Jacob Berkowitz and The Stardust Revolution, John Ralston Saul and Dark Diversions and Jonathan Goldstein's I'll Seize the Day Tomorrow.
Yes, that Jonathan Goldstein from This American Life and Wiretap, depending on which side of the border you live and listen to the radio on. That man's got his dead-pan voice and facial expression style down cold. And he still had them - and me - laughing. By design. Different style from what Jian Ghomeshi was doing last night, but that's alright. It should be like that.

Takin' Care of Business...
Oct. 14th, 2011 11:39 am...or at least trying to.
The day-job search continues, as does preparation for a storytelling slam at the end of this month. (I'll try to edit in a link to the competition later today/tonight.) Same with software skills development. Research for articles for Spacing Ottawa as well.
Last night, though, I had some fun.
The Writers Festival crew put on a show at Southminster United Church in what the maps of the 1910's and 1920's called the "Wyoming Park" section of old Ottawa South. Randy Bachman, promoting his first book ever, Vinyl Tap Stories. Complete with his own musical accompaniment. Lots of stories from the Winnipeg days. Interviewed by CBC Radio One Ottawa's Laurence Wall.
I had fun.
Pictures on Flickr to follow.
