dewline: Exclamation: "Hear, Hear!" (celebration)
I think we've known each other as fellow comics and SF fen since a couple of years after I moved to Ottawa, although I knew of for a few years before that from the letter columns of comic books I'd read and enjoyed.

Many more and happier birthdays to you, I hope!

As I was rummaging through my LJ archives to see what other positive events I can still commemorate, I can across an entry from 2006 noting Steve's wedding anniversary.

To Steve directly: if memory serves, the marriage still holds according to your postings on Facebook within the last day or so. Wishing you and Laura well today, Steve!

Having sent a note privately, it seems wrong to not also honour your day publicly. I know you've largely left LiveJournal behind, but you're not forgotten in this corner of the Internet. Hoping today's been kind to you and yours, and that days to come are kinder still.

Take care, okay?

Particularly for friends with mysteriously suspended accounts.

I just found out about [livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei. I know of no reason for his account to be suspended. For the record, I have no problems with his conduct on Livejournal or anywhere else.

...i almost forgot one: [livejournal.com profile] pompe!

How was yours, today?
dewline: Benton Fraser: "Thank you kindly." (gratitude)
Yesterday, I got to enjoy two different parties, each of a different sort of science-fiction bent, for a couple of hours apiece.

Both were fun events, and I got to see old friends and new. From the LJ crowd, [livejournal.com profile] dracodraconis, [livejournal.com profile] bluetourmaline, [livejournal.com profile] duncanmac, [livejournal.com profile] bunsen_h, [livejournal.com profile] ms_danson, [livejournal.com profile] mcwetboy and [livejournal.com profile] malovich...and a mix of so many others from a lot of different places on- and off-line, some of whose names I still don't know yet. Give it time. It usually takes me a while to match names to faces.

Thanks to you all for a good time yesterday.

Hoping to see you again, as often as can be, in the months to come...

Trying to find a way to say something that needs saying.

[livejournal.com profile] elaynetoo confirmed it earlier today, so now I can let the breath out.

Leah [livejournal.com profile] pikachette Adezio's in her last hours, so far as anyone can tell, as I type these words.

Before I worked with [livejournal.com profile] gumprich on Evening Shift, there was Ari of Lemuria. A project we - and Elayne - had high hopes for, but ultimately didn't happen.

I've known her but poorly in the decade plus since joining the online world myself. Met her a handful of times at conventions. A couple of phone conversations. Back and forths online. I can say that I'm a distant friend. Perhaps not much more than that.

It's going to hurt, even so, living in a world without her. Not in the same way as when Dad died, or any of my other relatives or friends, close and distant, who've died thus far...but it's going to be there.

And I don't have any more words right now.
