This is my own jarring moment of disbelief, in this screencap from the newer trailer.

The figure that draws my attention, circled in red.

Three Helicarriers, with embarked air wings, and the crew counts that probably entails...and this is the casualty number they go with here for the Battle of the Triskelion?

I'll still see the movie, because I suspect we're in for a good show otherwise. But this detail breaks the believability a bit for me. Even with the evacuation of the SHIELD HQ complex in progress.

1a) The ability to suspend disbelief is essential.

What was the user interface designer told to do there, I wonder?

"Just count everyone actually seen being shot on-camera and leave it at that", maybe?

I could fanwank it to be "in thousands" or "in hundreds".

For that mess at the Triskelion alone? Not counting the other fights in assorted SHIELD facilities and ships across the planet (per Agents of SHIELD)? I'd expect somewhere from ten to fifteen thousand dead. At least.

Then making it "total in thousands" would give you 23,000 deaths.

If that's what's supposed to be there, then it should be there on the screen. My comment above speculating about the possibility of the UI designer being told "only count the people we actually saw KIA on-camera" comes back to mind.

Like I said, it's a fanwank.

Alternatively, they're simply showing that this IS a comic-book universe. Cataclysms can happen, cities get wrecked, but people, in general, don't DIE in superconflicts.
