You will want to look at the New Scientist article linked therein, assuming you can make it past the formatting issues on the above-mentioned page. You'll want to do some further digging on your own, and I suggest you do so before taking me seriously on that.
Maybe there are other avenues of research being chased down right now that are equally promising, if not more so. I suspect that there are. There was that tailored-virus project here in Ottawa that's also starting to get headlines again in Canadian newspapers.
But this development is still damn close to a miracle, if the research pans out as I hope it might. If there's a reasonably safe yet quicker way to get this research done, I think it should be done.
This stupid batch of diseases cost me my Dad and others in my family have either died or endured near-misses themselves over the decades. I want to see at least this one thing wiped out in my lifetime.
I'll be keeping my eyes peeled, and e-mailing my MP to see what more can be done. Since the research is happening in the New Conservatives' political backyard of Alberta, that may be more than usual.
