I'm looking for good stuff to read or listen to, so I figured I'd throw it open to everyone. Anything out there you think I should know about that I don't already?

And in terms of the books side of things, prose or comics, fiction or non-fiction? Doesn't matter.

I'm currently reading 'Anansi Boys' by Neil Gaiman and thoroughly enjoying it. Before that it was Chomsky's 'Failed States', which is a great book for working one's self into a furious lather. It also got me paying far more attention to things like South and Central American election results.

Oh, and my husband is reading 'World War Z', which is kind of a collection of fictional 'historical' documents about the recent Zombie Wars.

Thanks much. I've been hearing good things about Chomsky from many quarters for a while now, and have meant to take a closer look.

As to the Zombie stuff, it does seem as if those beasties have come back into pop cultural fashion over the last couple of years, doesn't it?

You might want to read 'Hegemony or Survival' first and then 'Failed States'. They cover some of the same ground, but he frequently refers to the first one in the second.

I've noted that for future reference at the library.

On a somewhat related tangent, I think our PM is determined to give Prof. Chomsky nightmares...

Oh, and apparently 'zombie fiction' has become a whole new sub-genre. Go figure.

I'm still trying to. Not much luck as yet. Especially with, say, Marvel Zombies? It's a title where one timeline's versions of the Marvel Universe Heroes become the title villain-protagonists...
