Corporate leaders as feudal lord-like figures?

This is something - if I remember a'right? - that David Brin in particular's been warning against in recent years' worth of blog postings. With cause. He's of the mind that "neo-feudalists" have captured the Republicans. We can argue later over who serves that cause on our side of the border.

And there was a reason that people don't remember the Roman Republic very well at all, wasn't there?
