Day Before Canada Day 2010
Jun. 30th, 2010 10:46 amQuick notes:
First off,
ms_danson? Welcome aboard! Good to meet you over the last two weeks via the Pen and Paper workshops, and I hope you stick around for the long haul!
Working on a new piece for Spacing Ottawa based on some discussion kicked off over at
octranspo earlier this week that's since taken some interesting twists and turns of its own. I'll let you know when it goes live.
(Yes, the Street Name History project is ongoing. Doing research, and waiting to hear back from several people about a couple of details.)
This week, Justin Beach has been posting some of his thoughts and correspondence with assorted public officials about the whole G8/G20 mess in Toronto last weekend. You might want to take a look to see if you agree with him or not. Still mulling it over in my own brain, perhaps overmuch for my own good. I do believe we need a public inquiry into the matter, though.
I just heard on Q that Larry King's retiring from his CNN work. Mildly shocked, and yet not really. Does it seem to any of you that he's been building up to this announcement for a while now? I don't usually watch his show, but when I do, I get a sense that I'm missing something worth seeing.
Looks as if Wonder Woman's going to have a "Yesterday's Enterprise" kind of year, as spun up by J. Michael Straczynski. He's billing it as something else, believes it to be something else...but from what little I've yet seen before visiting the comics shop? The road less travelled, by the will of the Hellenic Pantheon in this case. It should be a good read in its own right given Straczynski's history, though, which is why I bring it up here. You might want to go see for yourself.
Oh, and one more planet added to the confirmed list. This one's from a team led by one of our own: David Lafrèniere of U de Montréal. Here's the Wikipedia file.
More as it comes up...
