Something a friend of mine mentioned set my curiosity off this afternoon.

Do you have a curling establishment within an hour's reach - on foot, by road or rail - of where you live? You don't have to go into specific details if you don't want to. A "yes/no" answer will suffice, with my thanks for it.

Yes, I can think of three off the top of my head. One of them happens to be Kevin Martin's.

If they have one at Baylor, then yes.

I sincerely doubt it. I wish, though.

I don't live anywhere near Seattle now, so that's a three-hour drive away.

Ouch. :-(

Seems like these things are both more and less widespread on your side of the Line than I thought.

Just doing a lot of Google searches to see if there's anything within 100 miles, but it looks like there's only a couple of ice rinks in this area and no curling at all.

I live down near Yakima now, between Yakima and the Tri-Cities.

Oh, and while we're at it...

Supposedly there's a curling place north of Houston. I didn't know about it until the Olympics, though.

A quick Google run reveals clubs in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin. And that's the first page's worth of results. The Houston club (http://www.houstoncurling.com/) has a cutely cluttered logo...which leaves me wondering how you'd work the logistics of a game played on Luna!

And as for their host facility (http://www.spacecityice.com/)? Makes me wonder about O'Neill-style "spin for gravity" habitats. Babylon 5 could have managed to make enough room for a rink or ten, but smaller facilities could have problems!

That is a cool logo! I never knew we had curling down here! It makes sense, because we have a lot of ex pat Canadians down here.

*nods*

My parents curled on a hobby basis for years, and CanGames (http://www.cangames.ca/) has used one of the local clubs' facilities during the late spring/early summer for years, so I knew about Ottawa for sure.

Surprised that there isn't one closer to your neighbourhood!

You can still see bits and pieces inside the RCAF Museum from when the building used to house the curling club. (I remember when EVERY CF base had one.) But it got turned over to the museum quite a while ago now. Meanwhile the Trenton Curling Club is easily accessible downtown. I don't play, at least not very often, but I certainly recognize its place is Canadian lore, and it's rightful place at the Olympics.
