Talked about this last year: my mother is an engineer from this generation. I think a lot about how her education and employment allowed her to protect herself and her family (me, my aunts, my cousins) from gender-based violence and exploitation. This, of course, is what the polytechnic shooter wanted to stop. Domestic terrorism in service of domestic abuse.
