No Dictatorships Without a Depression
Mar. 13th, 2020 10:15 amAnd "Depression" in this context of my fears remains deliberately capitalized with all the historical baggage that I expect that capitalization to bring.
Between the oil price drop, the reactions to COVID-19, and whatever other consequences we should expect...it feels to me like we're getting closer to the point that the would-be tyrants think they need to finally get over their finishing lines. I don't know what we need to do about this possibility.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has some concerns to share on the subject. I don't believe these various human rights need be in conflict, even now. It may be overly optimistic on my part to say so, but it seems a good idea to share their commentary on the matter. We're all trying to adjust our routines as needed, and this discussion is part of the process.

One of my subscribed job-search alerts via the job search service Indeed pointed this out to me: Lee Valley Tools, a local hardware retailer that's been active for four decades here in Ottawa-Gatineau, has need of an archivist-curator at this particular moment.
If their management will forgive my quoting the advertisement, with italic emphasis of my choosing:
"Overview:
We have a new opportunity available for an Archivist/Curator Technician (Co-Op) at our Head Office in Ottawa, ON.
The Archivist/Curator Technician will provide support in the record keeping, cataloguing and maintaining of Lee Valley’s collection of historical artifacts and organizational documents.
Key Responsibilities
Preserve and maintain LV customer catalogues
Maintain digital files and databases
Organize and classify records to make them easy to search through
Coordinate, store and maintain tool collection
Photograph and Log all Information about items ( Measurements, origins, markings)
Conduct special research projects
Supporting store or trade show exhibits
Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum current enrollment in diploma or degree program related to museum studies or history
Well organized, able to work independently
Strong attention to detail
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite software"
This sounds like a cool job when I read out that part aloud. I'm not qualified to do the work, but some of you out there might know someone who'd be interested and able to do the work.

My workshopping group, Pen and Paper, usually meets at the Rideau Branch of the Ottawa Public Library. This should have been expected. We'll have to figure out a workaround if we want to keep going, probably via Internet.
