Beta Pictoris
Jan. 11th, 2018 03:32 pmIt occurs to me that, despite the relative proximity of Beta Pic to Sol at 64 lightyears (barring updates from GAIA DR 2 or later), we're still not ever going to see any planets finish forming in our lifetimes. Nor that of our entire biosphere, probably.
The same goes for the protagonists of Star Trek, Babylon 5, The Expanse, Honor Harrington, the Legion of Super-Heroes, the 31st Century incarnations of the Guardians of the Galaxy, etc..
