May. 29th, 2011

Well, May 2011 is almost over. We've got a new-old federal government, the composition of which spooks the stuffing out of me. The weather's mixed-blessing right now, with off and on rain. The National Capital Race Weekend's half-done, with lots of people walking around in aluminized rain ponchos in the downtown core neighbourhoods. I just sent off a bunch of scans of photocopied maps to an editor for an article on Lowertown East I'm working on and next up is a trip to the local science fiction club's monthly-mostly meeting. Which I hope to see lots of people attending.

And we had somebody land on their head on the up-escalator at the Rideau Centre near Starbucks on Level 2 about half an hour before I posted this. He got escorted out by paramedics about ten minutes ago, and seemed to be okay, but they're closing off that escalator for the next few hours just in case. Not much of a show, really, and more than a little distressing for his family. I hope he ends up okay, whoever he is.

More as it occurs to me tonight...

So...there's confirmation via Facebook from several long-time Saint Fans Who Should Know Such Things that The Saint in New Orleans is a definite "go".

Good.

I was kind of hoping for that Toronto deal to go through as previously announced, but so long as we get a good show out of what's being made now? I'll deal.

Still...The Saint in Toronto ain't a bad movie title either.

Maybe someday...?

One other thing: I picked up the above title, written by one Mark Ovenden the other week. Based on his handling of what's called Transit Maps of the World in the anglophone portions of North America and Paris Underground over the last few years, it seemed like a good choice. And I've been a sucker for a well-designed map - or book about such maps - since I was a kid.

Worth the money. It's thorough, it showed me stuff I'd never seen before, and gave me a sense of rail-related graphic design history that I may end up playing with for years.

Mostly, it's just fun.
