That happened to me. As a child, as a college student, and as a graduate student, I never planned to become a patent examiner.

Yup. Almost nobody that I know with a college degree has a career where that degree is being utilized; I know someone who had something like 90k student debt for a bachelor's and is now working at an insurance company from home - not what their major was for.

I never got a degree. Two community college diplomas, marketing and animation...and I've ended up mostly in data entry, records management, testing analyst, that sort of thing...

Yeah, I can agree with that! I have no high expectations of getting back into IT as a database dude.
