My tax paperwork is now in the mail, en route to Sudbury for processing. We'll see soon enough if my calculations are good enough. There's always something I've misunderstood, sometimes corrected to my benefit, sometimes not so much, every year. If I end up repaying something again - it's happened on occasion - I find it harder than many to complain about that, especially after these last two years of Pandemic-era supports.

I do want and will the social safety net to evolve to the better for us all, of course. UBI, at a reasonable monthly level, indexed to inflation...that would be good, I'm convinced.

Housing supports for all, housing for all, that would be good also.

Finally rolling pharma, eye care, dental care, mental health care into the overall medicare system, ditto.

We have to argue for it. Until we win.

More on other topics anon.

I am a big supporter of UBI, having been on disability [US] long enough to be annoyed with the amount of bureaucratic hoops I have to jump through to prove I'm "still disabled" and constantly live in fear of my income taken away because a bureaucrat is having a bad day or doesn't like me being obviously gender non-conforming or this or that. The US could easily afford UBI if we stopped paying politicians like rock stars and stopped getting involved in wars we don't need to be in [though for the record, I'm very OK with us sending Ukraine assistance, what's happening there is genocide]. I think Canada should have it too, obviously - it used to surprise me Canada does not, I always thought Canada was a lot more liberal than the US [which I admired] but have been finding out you guys are almost in as bad shape as we are down here.

And obviously yes I think universal health care and putting things like pharma, dental, and mental health into it is good and necessary.

What good are we if we can't even take care of each other?

I got my Federal sent off a couple of weeks ago, and my State a couple of days after that. Then earlier this week I get an email from H&R Block, from whom I sent the Fed form, saying "Congratulations on doing a filing extension!"

Uh, what?

I had received confirmation from them that my filing had been accepted, I had paid my processing fees. So this was kind of out of left field. I hadn't had time to dig in to it.

Yesterday I received another email from them saying "You may have received an email from us in error."

Yeah, think so?

We get it when we get it, and we don't worry about it as it's a decent refund. The funny thing is that H&R wanted me to pay $50 to file my state return, for a $43 refund. I did it myself on the state's web site - for free - and am getting back $80something.  Assuming I did it right and don't get a letter in the mail.
