I really don't understand people selling stupid amount of money for essentially a file that says they own a digital representation to something, which may be a physical or digital thing.

Here I thought Bitcoin and its ilk was insane. 'Let's generate money with no basis in reality, that can fluctuate wildly just on someone saying something, not on real-world events!'

Meanwhile, the planet burns! And Texas invites cryptomining rigs into its state which has trouble keeping the lights on because ensuring it could would deprive shareholders of profits.

You can put the Jason Kenney regime in Alberta right next to Greg Abbott's "administration" in Texas. Both sub-national governments are currently operating along similar ethical lines, I think. Lots of Albertans know better, though, and are already building/renovating/retrofitting with an eye on switching to renewables. Kenney's having trouble finding ways to bring them to his idea of "heel", thankfully.
