For once I found the comments somewhat reassuring – they seemed to be mostly either:
(a) people who consider themselves “socially liberal, fiscally conservative” (which I still disagree with, there’s limited value in saying “live and let live” if you’re cutting back on social services while you do it) saying “we don’t want to let this faction of the party push us into interfering with our neighbours’ personal lives,”
or
(b) liberals and positions leftwards saying “yeah, make this guy your leader, show your true colours to the voters and make sure the Conservatives don’t get back in.” (I realize that giving them a platform and therefore legitimacy could still be dangerous.)
As far as comments on the CBC News report pages themselves are concerned, my browser can't show them to me any more. When I can see them on other, more recent versions of various browsers, I find that the issue my browser has with those web pages is a blessing in disguise. Peace of mind being the blessing.
