Well, I just tried to register that copy of Quark that came with the March 2007 issue of PC Pro that I told you about earlier in the week. No luck.

For Quark's corporate purposes, Canada is treated as if it were US territory.

Disappointing to say the least.

So I'm not eligible to register, much less, install the software. I'm sure there's ways of dealing with it, but I neither need nor want to know of them. Not unless Quark's willing and able to share. Fortunately, there's enough freeware goodies on the DVD in question to still make it halfway useful.

If I get any positive news later on, I'll share it here.

Maybe they know something you don't. Is there a picture of a flag with 51 stripes on it anywhere in the packaging?

It would be 51 stars...

...and no such logo on the packaging. Just an e-mail or two from their UK Customer Service people saying that Canada's considered part of Quark USA's corporate/sales jurisdiction. So no help for me there. And I'm not inclined to ask for trouble.

I'm proud of my ignorance. Takes real talent to be ignorant of a superpower that owns all of your media.

Not yet, they don't. Hopefully, not for a long time yet.
