So this happened today at the CRTC:

Is this a decision Canadian viewers, readers and listeners need to worry about? If so, why?

I'd say "yes". I need it for communications, for job searching, for shopping for things that bricks-and-mortar shops don't or can't provide.

CRTC is wading into the question now...

Many of you will remember my interest in seeing the CBC not only survive, but thrive in the Canadian media landscape. To that end, I'm posting a link that [livejournal.com profile] justinbeach alerted me to last weekend:

http://www.cbc-consultation.ca/welcome/

It's a site organized by the CRTC, the federal organization that regulates our radio, TV and certain other media activities to whatever extent possible, and seeing that the CBC is a Crown corporation, they've got to keep an eye on some of what's going on there too.

They're looking for commentary on any number of CBC-related questions, and so far it looks as if certain elements of the (New) Conservative Party commentary machine are well underway trying to get CBC privatized or ended. And as I said, I want CBC to keep on keeping on for a long, long time...

There's to be no choice between analog and digital TVs for any of us in Canada if this CRTC notice is anything to go by. Antonia Zerbisias' column for the Toronto Star provided a heads-up on this particular unannounced decision.

To say I'm displeased...well, that would be about right. Additional notes on the subject - and somewhat related matters - at these blog postings:

I could use some help in sussing out the whole situation.
