So there was this two-parter set in large part in an underwater oil rig in the UK c. 2119 CE.
Inside the pressurized compartments of the rig was a map, which I sourced from wegeekgirls.com thanks to a Google Images search:
This demonstrates again the problem of doing science fiction and fantasy on the sort of basis we've expected from Doctor Who. Or most TV series in the genre in the UK, USA and Canada, really. I get the idea that this is a post-climate derangement planetary issue. Melted ice caps, loss of coastlines, and so forth.
Two things they missed.
1. The larger lakes should all match the background. I see several lakes scattered across the continent of Africa that should've gotten the same treatment as North America's own Great Lakes. Ditto for one in northern Russia.
(Also, not seen on this image but viewable on other images of this same map, New Zealand/Aotearoa still exists.)
2. The national borders were left the same as in the pre-South Sudan real world.
How likely are those borders to remain static for that long?
It's a century from "now" for one thing, and there's a certain amount of established continuity re: the nations of Earth that should still hold true even allowing for the "wibbley-wobbly, timey-wimey" messing around that happens on this series as well, that could have been caught and allowed for. I don't have my copy of the show's established continuity pre-Ninth Doctor at hand for the details, but I expect there's some things Whovians longer in the tooth than I could point to.
Anyway, there's my nerdiness for the afternoon. Back to job searching. Unless you think this qualifies me for a job with your TV or movie project? (Doubtful, but miracles happen in other areas of life.)
