There was a time when I drew constantly, and even harbored the notion of one day drawing comics (I still have a worn copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way on a shelf that I bought when I was a teenager). Never got good enough or fast enough to have a serious go at it, and then life came along and pretty much took me away from it. Then the writing bug bit, and the rest is....well....it's a frikkin' mystery is what it is. :)
It's common to draw upside down. We animators do it all the time, we even have a special disc that turns 360 degrees when we're animating so we can draw tough angles and nice curves.
Some days I wish those desks from animation school were sold at Wallack's. It would make the work slightly easier some days. Pricey, but it would be worth the expense on the first month alone.
