Justin Beach recently passed along word of a petition re: the CBC that I think deserves a moment of thought.

I'll let Justin explain it...and if you agree with his thinking on this issue -- also mine own -- take a look at this link below:

More on other topics, including comics books, tomorrow.

I think the government needs a fund to help CBC win the bid for NHL broadcast rights...

Certainly a concern, but the NHL might have its own concerns about the fallout of taking those rights away from CBC, no matter who's able to put up a better bid package.

That's true, and I hope that's the case.

It just makes me sad, the thought of them losing HNIC, to a private network, no less. Maybe it's silly, but it is such a huge part of Canadian culture, you know?

This article by the Toronto Star's Chris Zelikovich (http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&call_pageid=971358637177&c=Article&cid=1164840611235)(not sure how long public accessibility will last) suggests that CBC may have a bit more leverage than originally believed. Not that I'd want the HNiC people to get complacent about that...

That's supposed to be "Zelkovich", not Zelikovich!

My mistake, Mr. Zelkovich! :-(

That's good to hear, at least.

And don't get me wrong, I like TSN, I think they do excellent sports coverage and they do hockey well - but HNIC is an institution in this country.

If by "it", you're speaking of the campaign and petition, the official title is "Double the Funding of the CBC".

I like the "2 x $4 CBC Campaign" nickname, though.

I'm not quite sure what kind of progress is being made of late, and I'm thinking your posting has prompted me to look into that.

Thank You for site
