* From Next City: The Battle Over San Francisco's Bus Stops. Not sure that Ottawa-Gatineau has yet fallen into a similar trap, but we would do well to take preventative measures.
* From Ethan Cox at the National Post (not one of my normally-preferred news+opinion sources, admittedly): How to Save Canada Post. The idea he closes out with is particularly intriguing.
* CBC/Radio's VP for brand, communications and corporate affairs Bill Chambers: CBC/Radio-Canada still has a job to do. And I agree fervently with him on this point.

More on other topics as the day continues, hopefully.

Trapped already?

The San Francisco piece might help to explain something I've seen downtown: namely, private buses using the bus-lanes near Kent/Slater. I'm not sure they use the bus stops, but it looks like we have at least the beginnings of a similar issue.

Maybe.

Keep your eyes peeled, hm?

No, this wouldn't be strange for a Post Office

I lived in Britain for almost two years and became familiar with the idea of "Girobank (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girobank)" while I was there (though I gather it no longer exists). I see nothing wrong with the idea of introducing it here. As the Wikipedia article that I linked to points out, the British Girobank introduced a number of innovations that had other British banks scrambling to catch up. Many of these innovations are well-known to banks here and now in Canada, but new innovations can also be introduced. If nothing else, adding competition should help reduce banking fees, which always have been an issue here.
