I'm giving some thought to an idea proposed by Adam Hunt, an Ottawa acquaintance from National Capital FreeNet: that there are alternatives to Facebook that might suit us all much better. Mr. Hunt suggests a service(?) called Diaspora in particular, by way of the essays linked below:

Interesting, that last bit about Facebook's alleged response to Mr. Hunt's attempts to keep his friendlist there "in the loop" about his plans and actions.

Meanwhile, if any of you reading this have tried Diaspora - or any other service of like intent - I'd be equally interested in your opinions of them.

Its not so much the service itself that matters (look how many people hate Facebook yet are on it) but the people who are using it. It's very hard for any other service to gain traction without having the huge population that Facebook has. I have an account on Diaspora and I hardly ever log in. I have 1 friend on it who also never logs in. Yet , we're both on Facebook every day. Google plus is a bit more popular but is still very much a techie playground. I have several g+ friends, but none of my "regular people " friends are on it. They don't have any interest in being on it either.

I take your point about population levels on the various services.
