Well, Canada's not bad off. Tho the undead in Alaska is worrying. (Lead by Sara Palin?)

Does seem like we keep avoiding all the Big Troubles hitting everywhere else, but we need to know more.

Well, the resistance airbase is on the edge of Canada's north. Are we involved formally?

Also, how badly has trade been hit? It LOOKS like China and Japan are functioning....

1. That airbase being in Kalaaliit Nunaat/Greenland. Not sure if Canada's formally involved to any extent.

Also I wonder how western Europe got flooded. Did the Amazons set off that volcano in the Canary Islands that Gwynne Dyer was worrying about (http://gwynnedyer.net/articles/Gwynne%20Dyer%20article_%20%20Gee-Gees%20%28revised%29.txt)?

That will be something covered in a couple of the Flashpoint-related mini-series, no doubt.

2. To varying degrees, yes.

I had assumed Aquaman had done it, possibly when he hit Paradise Island....

Good point. I guess I need to read the relevant mini-series!

That's just a guess on my part, of course. But SOMETHING happened to the Island, or they wouldn't have taken over the UK.

It looks like North Africa doesn't exist anymore.

Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, chunks of Mali and Mauritania, and I'm not sure right now about which of the DCU-specific nations of Africa might be located in the same neighbourhood.

As for continental Europe?

Portugal, Spain, Andorra, France, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Markovia(?)...and what looks like the southern halves of Sweden and Norway.

And getting back to Canada: what happened to our northern islands in the Territories? Atlantis, perhaps?

Looking in from a great distance

Ha! Aside from some a very quick capsule version someone mentioned I haven't paid any attention to Flashpoint. Certainly, this is the first time I'd gotten more of the global picture of it. Aside from the Amazon-Atlantean conflict all the points of interest related to me were connected to North American-based characters. I will note that I've only looked at the map, not any other accompanying/commenting text. Presumably much information's been coming out this weekend - both because of this past week's revelations and because this weekend is Heroes Con down in N.C. - but I've not gone looking for any of it.

Considering that Flashpoint (at least by my expectations) will largely be a dramatic gateway, probably being very different from the post-Flashpoint, New DCU... I have to wonder to what extant the mainstream comics fan should care about this Elseworlds-ish bit of almost-certain-to-implode-out-of-existence bit of geopolitics?

"Elseworlds-ish bit of almost-certain-to-implode-out-of-existence bit of geopolitics" though it certainly is, it's also still another excuse for some additional fun. This is part of the sorts of things I got into the hobby/artform/business for in the first place.

And a week or three later, I'm looking at this posting with a very different frame of mind. The kind of mindset that thinks of Charles Schulz' quotation:

"Comics will break your heart."

Africa is controlled by apes.

Japan is protected by 'tornados'.

Alaska has gone '30 Days of Night'.

Yeah, I think I'll be saving my money.

Same here. Almost everything I've seen coming out of the Big Reboot signifies that, for the first time, we know how badly the opportunities presented by a big crossover event will be squandered well in advance.
