I suppose this is to be expected. I've been a space news junkie since I was old enough to open my parents' copy of the Colliers Encyclopedia, and figure out from the technical artwork about Apollo 11 in the "Space Exploration" article what that mission meant. There was a time when it wasn't hard to keep up with the new discoveries each year, with each mission whoever launched it.
I've become spoiled in an odd way these last few years by the way the whole field's grown like topsy in spite of budget constraints imposed on all the players who've come onto the field. Really. I can't keep up anymore, and I am glad of that fact. Of the implications of that fact.
And I look at this piece on spaceref.com on the state of astrobiology today...and I worry that maybe I'm going to have the chance to catch up. Sooner than I'd ever like.
At the same time, I'm thinking that it might be possible that I won't have to worry.
Keeping my fingers crossed...
