Assorted Pieces of News

So some stuff's been happening while I was fixing up the sidebars here at this here LJ...
I went to something called a "CreatorCamp" last night. Mostly other people working in the arts explaining how they went about solving different kinds of problems involved in the actual creation of the artwork, never mind the business side of things. It was a good thing to go to, although the conversation between speechifying sessions was noise-like enough at times to almost drive me back down to the ground floor at Patty's. Not anyone's fault, it's just a matter of sound/comfort level issues on my part.
Other stuff from other people...
Eric Darwin's a friendly acquaintance who goes back a longish ways with me. He used to run the print shop that took care of my APAzines in the days when I actively contributed to Legends APA. (Incidentally, that APA's still operating if you're a DC comics fan and looking for some off-internet fun and storytelling venues. Go check the link.) The other day, Eric spots an odd sign outside of Ottawa City Hall. Go have a look. It actually got an idea out of me, and maybe it could be a useful one.
Andrew Barton comments on the issue of launch costs and how they get so little attention from science fiction creators.
rfmcdpei points out some breaking news re: oddities in a couple of the "newer to US" star systems and covers some concerns re: the make-up of the key committees at Toronto City Hall in the wake of the 2010 municipal elections.
spacing_ottawa covers some interesting ideas put into action re: low-carbon Christmas celebrations, for those of us of a mind to celebrate it.
james_nicoll raises a question inspired by discussions begun by Charles Stross re: how durable assorted cities' support infrastructure really is.
More as we think of it...
