I just did a "search by interest" check with the key-phrase "Canadian Space Agency".

I find it puzzling and disturbing that, of all the thousands(?) of Canadians past and present with LJ accounts, only three of us have chosen thus far to list that organization as a subject of interest to us.

(Qualifier: One account is held by two people, both of whom I hold in very regard. The other person - aside from myself - who's expressed their interest last posted some five years ago, apparently. WTH???)

In what sense? Or am I missing a pun here?

Sadly the CSA has never been terribly 'exciting' or 'sexy' in media terms. They lack good PR.

It also shows how much of a geek I am that I see CSA and think 'Crime Syndicate of America.'

...a certain separatist movement that once operated within the actual United States.

I sometimes wonder if perhaps our government ought to have picked another name for our space exploration/research service.

For one thing, the purely political nature of the decision to have CSA in Montreal -- Ottawa would have been a better choice, as would one or two other places -- turned off some people. The way the CSA has tended to underplay private sector achievements in space, or just take credit for them, is another. It also seems inept at promoting itself, and probably doesn't have anything like the budget it would need to do anything that would really capture the public's attention.

The first and last of those are certainly true, and are probably affecting the willingness to admit to interest in what the CSA's up to - alone and in partnership with private companies and other countries - to some extent.
