[livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll just reported tremors in Kitchener-Waterloo at 1: 45 PM EST. About the same time as I was wrapping up my Ashcan Sampler 2010 page design work here at Patty's in the Market in Ottawa. Felt the tremors here too.

Anyone else?

Here too (Mississauga)

Yup. I was on a conference call with Toronto and we both felt it at the same time.

(me being in Montreal, of course)

Yes, I was kind of scared, actually. It lasted a long time, and I wondered what was going on.

We felt it in Lorraine, Quebec, 30 mins. outside of Montreal. Who's laughing now at the scientists who said, "Climate change is coming."

Ummm, no. Climate has absolutely nothing to do with earthquakes, nor does it cause volcanic eruptions or other manifestations of tectonic trouble.

However, earthquakes and (more particularly) volcanic eruptions *can* and have affected climate. See the Wikipedia article on volcanic winter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcanic_winter) for more.

I must agree with Duncan here. This wasn't a climate derangement symptom. Just normal(?) plate friction.

Felt it at Tom Brown Arena in Ottawa. Apparently it was a 5.5 magnitude, centered in Val-des-Bois..

CBC.ca has a report about the quake (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/06/23/tor-earthquake.html), which apparently caused windows to shatter at Ottawa City Hall.

And yes, I felt it too. The epicenter is apparently NW of here (beyond Buckingham). As for the magnitude, I have claims of up to 5.7.
