Progress - Local Hero - November 2009
Nov. 9th, 2009 08:06 pm"Accomplished" isn't all of it, though. For a while there today, "frustrated" would not have been out of line to describe the mood today either.
Today, I spent a fair chunk of time nailing down the look of the 2009 Ashcan Sampler, the latest edition of those little 16-pagers with which your not-so-humble artist hopes to continue his conquest of the comics-reading world in between issues of Local Hero. Because I am a creature of habit, I continued to work in Corel Draw 11, despite having Adobe CS4 at hand. Lack of experience with the latter combined with comfort in using the former.
However, there was one problem that, usually, would not be a problem: I was using Corel Draw 11 on the "Snow Leopard" edition of Mac OS X. Previous versions of OS X would allow me to convert Corel Draw files to PDF with little or no trouble at all. Not so this version. And as that last link makes clear, this is not an issue I'm alone in facing as a user.
I figured out some workaround involving Adobe Acrobat 9 by way of saving each page as an EPS file, but the file's not quite where I want it yet. If dropping EPS files right into an InDesign document's workable, I'd love to know ASAP.
And tomorrow, it's back to regular job-hunting and other errands, including a writing workshop.
Back to you!

600dpi B&W art will yield better results, and don't let any motherfucker tell you otherwise. (300dpi is fine for colour)
