I'm not too surprised at this, as the real point of a credit score (at least in the eyes of lenders) is not to identify people who are prudent in their financial dealings, but to get people to borrow more and carry higher balances. Of course, this sort of thing can end up backfiring badly, especially in a tight, savings-oriented economy, and hopefully it will.

And the concern over the perceived need to boost credit business is valid. So is the need for credit to be available to those who need it. Seems like we've got multiple legitimate worries competing for attention here. How to balance them all, hm?
