American chick, I think she did Clarion, but I have one of her books on my nightstand. She has written a series about an ex Canadian Special Forces soldier with cybernetic limbs. I am about 40 pages in and it's interesting enough that I actively regret not having finished it yet.

I've never been to Clarion, but thank you for the comment on my book!

I have a livejournal! (And I'm sorry if this is creepy and stalkerish.)

There's a wikipedia entry. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_bear) I'm also friendly and answer questions.

A minor surprise...

...to be answered by the author directly. Not unpleasant, however. Thanks for dropping in!

Besides, if I were to take you to task for such visitations, I'd be asking for much-deserved trouble in the form of hypocrisy charges! :-)

My pleasure. Google Alerts. *g* I contemplated leaving you in peace, but the temptation....

No problem

As it turns out, it's the series [livejournal.com profile] thebitterguy is referring to that caught my attention for various reasons.

In that case, please feel free to drop me an email with any questions.

In that case, thank God I wasn't obnoxious.

Sorry about the Clarion miscall; I must have confused you with another writer. My capacity for remembering things is diminishing as I age.

*g* I have a lot of friends who are Clarion grads, and it seems like 75% of SFF writers have been. I couldn't afford the tuition and the time off work when I was still eligible, or I would have loved to have gone.

And, you know. You're entitled to be obnoxious. ;-)

If Clarion is anything like the Kubert School, I know that particular sense of frustration too well.

It's an intensive six-week workshop for SFF writers. Very cool.

I do come by my obnoxiousness honestly.

I guess by this point you no longer need be concerned with attending it.

So, was there a particular reason you made her Canadian? Or will that be evident when I get five more pages in?

She came that way. Which sounds like a flip answer, but isn't--Jenny is one of those characters who showed up. very much herself, and was not amenable to anything but talking while I dictated.

I've seen it before with other authors, other characters, over the years. I've had a couple -- not yet officially published -- pop up that way myself, and the inspirations vary with each one...
