Can-Con 2024

Once again, I will not be attending Can-Con in person this year. This is due to my continuing efforts to reduce my risk of COVID-19 reinfection and the consequences of it for me and other people.

Even if Can-Con went back from "recommended" to "required" on its masking policy, OC Transpo isn't even being allowed to bother one way or the other. As the public transit system is my main way of getting around Ottawa, and Can-Con is something I want, rather than need, to attend, it's one more thing I will forego.

I'm sorry about this.

A lot of people took home Covid from Scotland after attending WorldCon this year, it's definitely a good idea to be safe than sorry.

I keep telling people that Covid isn't "over" and won't be anytime soon.
  History of the so-called "Spanish Flu" in the nineteen-teens actively lasted ten+ years, due largely to people stopping masking after the first year. The second year infection rate was way higher than the first year, due mostly to that.
  What's even less known is that negative health effects lasted more than twenty (20) years after. Children were born with major birth defects even that long after.

I sometimes wonder about the impact of that epidemic and how it may have been a factor in the Depression and maybe even WW2...?

I've seen nothing that shines a light on how the flu impacted those two events.
Speculating, i'm guessing that it did have some effect on the craziness during the 1920s, aka "the roaring twenties"; going somewhat wild after the trauma of the epidemic. All that did set things up for the overreach that lead to the crash we label "the Depression." Crazies were running things. A.K.A. "Know Nothings"

As for now, what i'm watching is current events. In case you missed it, check out Rachel Maddow's show last night where she covered JD Vance and his connections. The crazies are out in full force and imho, it's setting us up for serious events unless the Democratic Party sweeps the election.

We took the safety measures away years too soon, and the consequences were somewhat lobotomizing for a lot of the survivors, is my thinking. Then, as though now, right?
