The ceremonies were alright. I shouldn't expect to be comfortable at such rituals.

Back to the workday routine. Which, oddly, has a comfort to it despite the economics of the situation...and the weather today. I wonder how the overnight snowfall is affecting the O-Train lines.

OTTAWA: Linguistic Bigots and the Mayor

On one level, this was an act of intimidation. On another, an act of twisted nostalgia.

On another, it was worse.

I answer the act with this: Ottawa - since well before European contact and "settlement" - colonization, really - was always functionally multilingual. Not merely bilingual.

And it should always remain so.
