I've noted this in years past: in 2002, on Christmas Day, my father died of metastasized renal cell cancer. Some forty years earlier, a cousin of mine was born on Christmas Day.

The day has been a mixed blessing for my extended family across the decades, and I wait and wonder what twists the occasion will bring this time.

In any case, whatever you observe or celebrate at this time of year, I hope that this Season is kind to you.

Christmas was not kind to me as a teen as you know leaving me uncertain about it, but I do my best.

My dad is a Christmas baby and still kickin', my friend Dave who stayed with us through all of last year and part of this lost his wife to breast cancer on Xmas Day about five years ago. We talked to him for about an hour while driving across the desert to Phoenix yesterday evening.
