"Obscene" might be a better word for it. I knew to expect it from the judge's conduct as agoodwinsmith has also noted, and it still offends to the core.
It helps that I have zero expectations of the legal system to deliver justice. As someone points out, it was surprising that the judge didn't apologize for the inconvenience and take him home to dinner.
Yes. The judge has been telegraphing his intent (I know there was a jury involved, but hah) since the trial opened, so while I am disgusted, I'm not surprised.
