Sidebar: applied to three jobs today. At least one employer was willing to "tell" me via Indeed that I wasn't what they're looking for this time. So I don't have to emotionally invest any hope in that now.

Targeted often costs more than not-targeted, which is something I wish the bean-counters understood.

I think more of them understand it than used to be the case. The ones who do are still being fought, tooth and political claw, on this point. Even with the evidence adding up to the point of Nobel Economics Prizes being handed out to the ones who see clearly now.

The core issue is not "bean-counters". The core issue is people who are viscerally opposed to what they see as "freeloading", which is a moral rather than an economic judgement.

Sadly, there are those with that kind of POV and it attaches to militancy against the rest of us all too easily, as we keep seeing. I think I can see a couple of people with that mindset over at talkpolitics semi-regularly.
