Well, this was a quiet day too. The House reruns keep playing on CTV Drama upstairs, and for all the trouble I went to over the years to accumulate the DVD collection I currently have, I can't be bothered to watch a one of them yet.

No, for me it's Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap on Radio One right now.

I may be about to sell another book from my personal library. More on that tomorrow, maybe.

Rereading dduane's Star Trek: TNG novel "Intellivore" and geeking out a bit - again - over the star name-dropping. Looking up "B Hydri" via SIMBAD is bringing up nothing. Should I go to AAVSO?

I'm glad that DVDs continue to remain a viable option, I fear their demise, especially given the limited selection available via any particular streaming subscription.

I would prefer that DVDs remain viable for the next few decades at least. I want something that I can physically own.

Yes, DVD rot is real, and a danger to my collection. And still.

Definitely, me too, CDs also. Electronic ownership seems so very ephemeral and difficult to prove if something goes wrong.

When Netflix had an effective monopsony over paid video streaming, selection wasn't perceived as quite so much of a problem, was it? Now, we're expected to lock into them or one of their newer competitors, or to spread whatever funds we can spare out over two or more such.

My initial interest in Netflix was primarily in the DVDs-by-mail exactly for the wide selection, it's only in more recent years that I've much cared about their streaming (I liked Jessica Jones, for instance). It was thus quite a disappointment to find that Netflix UK doesn't even do by-mail!

The limited selection is becoming more of an issue quite recently where for some services, including Netflix, they have original content that isn't coming out on DVD. I'm not subscribing to many but now patience isn't meaning that DVDs-by-mail catches the others, that's what makes the limited selection more severe for me than it was.
