"The Great Reopening" is the nickname given by Matt Galloway on The Current this morning to the process of (supposedly) restarting the economy around the world. I'm wondering flat out, as are some of Mr. Galloway's guests this morning, if this isn't too soon a restart being pushed on us all by our "betters".
And here I sit, checking job boards as I listen to The Current and write this post...and I've been checking job boards whatever my circumstances.

Date: 2020-05-07 05:59 pm (UTC)Tracking apps are silly. First, not everyone has sufficiently new smart phones to implement it. Are you going to buy everyone a $500 smart phone and the data plan to go with it? Are you going to require them to do such? Then you get into the false positive and false negative problems. If I'm stuck in traffic as a passenger for five minutes next to a driver who later tests positive, I was in a sealed environment, zero chance of me having been exposed to them. The false negative problem is exposure to someone who doesn't have a phone with the tracking app. There's also problems with cellular GPS accuracy and cellular signal coverage.
It's a case of techies trying to help with applying tech to a problem inappropriately. It's just not a solution.
What we have is rich people who have more money than they can spend if they were to literally burn a million dollars a day wanting more, not caring if more people die. The world is going to change because of this virus, it's not going to go back to the way it was. We don't know how it's going to change yet, we're just going to have to wait and see how it evolves. Hopefully it will be a better place for us not in the top 0.01%.

Date: 2020-05-10 07:59 am (UTC)I don't know what the numbers are across the country, I know my state, New Mexico, is still experiencing exponential growth. But because the national stockpile was depleted, and we wasted two months because we had the most ridiculous clown car executive branch government and senate in history, we're screwed. People are going to go back to work, and people are going to die. Me, I'm supposed to go back to the library in July, though we're not opening to students until late August. I'm really not sure how I'm going to handle it.
