Things That Help Me

Yesterday, there was a bunch of protests against M-103, a motion by Liberal MP Iqra Khalid of Mississauga targeting Islamophobia as a Problem to be studied and solved to whatever degree possible (along with other forms of bigotry) in several cities across Canada.
What brings me continued hope for the future of Canada is that in every case, opposing rallies were organized and fielded in defence of M-103.
Calgary.
Edmonton.
Regina and Saskatoon.
Winnipeg.
Toronto.
Montréal and Ville de Québec.
I haven't heard of the like in Ottawa-Gatineau, and I don't know whether to be hopeful or worried about that. If you know of similar events elsewhere in Canada, I'd be glad of links to the reports.
Again: counter-protests against bigotry? Cause for hope.

Date: 2017-03-06 05:10 pm (UTC)Protests are interesting things. When our Congress was in recess last week most of the critters did not hold town hall meetings because of protests, some going as far as claiming that they were full of paid protesters and such protesters make $1,500 a week. I wish they'd post a link to where I could sign up for such a job, I'd be willing to pay my own expenses for that kind of gig.

And protesting in support of civil society...well, getting paid for something I need to do in self-defence anyway would be a bonus. Might complicate my tax paperwork (a little bit), but I could live with that consequence.

I blame the 24 hour news cycle for a lot of the political polarization of our country, and that, coupled with people not willing to think critically or look for attribution of crap sent around the internet, is probably 90% of the trouble that the USA has.
