Based on a friend's recommendation, I've borrowed Ann Leckie's Ancillary Justice from the library. It's slow going, but I'm expecting it'll be worth the time.
That's the first book in the Ancillary series, right?
If so, you'll like it or not in large part because it has a unique voice and an unusual setting for its adventure story. I liked it quite a lot, but found the sequels suffered from very poor world-building, which disappointed the hell out of me.
If it turns out this one is worth your time, I'd stop at the end of the first book.
Possible warning
