Work, Festivals and Such
Sep. 23rd, 2006 10:48 pmSo. We've got this festival. It's devoted to animation, it's held every two years on even-numbered years last I checked -- I'm starting to wonder about my memory on that one -- and it's a Big Deal here in Ottawa. I try to attend what I can when I can, but since graduating from Algonquin Animation that hasn't amounted to much thus far.
This year, thanks to Local Hero and other obligations, I've got a more legitimate explanation ("excuse"?) than usual for not being there. I still took a look 'round the dealers' room -- er, Animarket, sorry -- and finding the usual suspects in place. I've got to keep a closer eye on this thing in future.
Anyway, here's some other stuff of interest:
I'm putting up a single-panel teaser for Local Hero on the Artblog from page 17. No context for now, sorry. You're going to have to read the completed comic for that. That's coming, though...
Some of my new reading includes Designing Type by Angela Cheng. Since I'm fiddling with font design software a bit these days, it seems like a good idea to get to basics. There's another book, the Logo, Font and Lettering Bible by Leslie Cabarga I've got around here, as well as the Comicraft primer, Comic Book Lettering, by Mr. Starkings and I should have a good idea of where to go with this particular hobby from here between those three volumes.
(FYI: Any additional suggestions are definitely welcome.)
What I eventually hope to have is a well-rounded set of skills, "full service" if you will.
Other reading this weekend: Micro Nations from Lonely Planet. From Sealand to the Conch Republic, all those little nations within nations that aren't quite there yet, but are present and correct enough to provide a break from the usual stürm und drang you'll usually find in the news.
(
black13, is that correct accenting on that phrase? I don't have my English-German dictionary at hand right now.)
Closing this posting with a shout-out to Perfect Books and
vonandmoggy's Moggy for helping me get Designing Type and Micro Nations! Thanks much to you all!
