Formaldehyde: A Couple of Thoughts

Based on this NY Times editorial, I have two thoughts:

1. What were the US authorities of the day thinking when they set those rules requiring that particular sequence of steps in place?

2. Where is Health Canada on this issue?

When you eat fruit, the pectin is processed by your gut bacteria to liberate methanol. This methanol is oxidized in your body to formaldehyde, quite a lot of it.

I am skeptical that rather small amounts of inhaled formaldehyde vapor could cause a larger exposure than this source already produces.
