Gadgets and Pricing
Jan. 29th, 2015 07:58 amOne of you on my friendlists pointed this out: that Stephen Baker commented on how the passage of time can affect the pricing of electronics. He was right.
In my case, it was an external floppy drive, the kind you use with 3.25" disks. Granted that the tech and disks are now considered obsolete, but there's still the need to rescue old files from technological obscurity, either for myself or a relative or friend on occasion. So I kept my eyes open, and eventually stumbled across the external floppy drive - USB-capable, no lie - available from Nexxtech via the Source, those electronics shops that in Canada were formerly known as Radio Shack outlets. They still serve much the same purpose under that new name in order to further enrich the stockholders of Bell Media, these days.
The cost? $ 12 Canadian plus taxes. And it works with my Mac gear, and likely will with any Windows gear as recent as the "Windows 98" edition as well. It's a little slow in working, but it gets the stuff that it can do done.
I wonder who lost the use of their hands for life to get me that price tag?
