John Gushue reminded me of something that happened to our postal system 20 years ago today.

Date: 2006-12-02 01:31 pm (UTC)In all honesty, the "supermailboxes" -- should DC sue over that nickname? -- do provide an excuse for neighbours to meet one another that otherwise might not be afforded them, but there's something good to be said for the charms of the older tradition as well.

Date: 2006-12-02 03:56 pm (UTC)*nods* That's true. They're really not all that bad - I mean, you're generally not very far away from the nearest one, so it's not like you usually have to go too far to get your mail. And it does give people an excuse to go outside for a couple minutes.
